Database Administrator
Summary
Plans, designs, implements, and maintains computerized database management systems throughout the entire system lifecycle. Works with systems analysts and developers to design data model needed to meet business requirements. Develops and implements data structures. Establishes and maintains security and integrity controls. Defines and implements operational support procedures including backup and recovery. Performs operational support, which includes performance analysis and tuning. Formulates and monitors policies, procedures and standards relating to database management. Proposes and implements enhancements that will improve the security, performance, and reliability.
Has wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Frequently contributes to the development and/or implementation of new technical standards and methods. Considered an expert in the field. Develops resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Work is accomplished without considerable direction and/or coordinates activities of other personnel. Exerts significant latitude in determining objectives of assignment, and determines the methods and procedures needed for new assignments.

- Plans, designs, and implements relational/non-relational database, middleware, application management and delivery and/or application security solutions.
- Defines standards for performance, reliability, security, confidentiality, integrity, and availability, then establishes and maintains.
- Defines and implements policies, standards, and operational support procedures.
- Defines standards for and then performs operational support, which includes patching, backup, recovery, cloning, performance analysis, tuning, issue analysis/resolution and troubleshooting.
- Works collaboratively as part of a self-organizing agile team, providing leadership and mentorship for others.
- Reviews project requests, designs solutions and develops work estimates.
- Fosters strong relationships with customers, peers, and service providers.
- Identifies and addresses productivity impediments; develops and promotes work process improvements.
- Develops and implements data migration and system integration strategies.
- Develops and implements automation strategies to improve efficiency and quality.
- Arranges, prepares, and conducts meetings, workshops and presentations as required.
- Researches, assembles, and/or evaluates information or data regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting information system policies or programs; recommends sound, practical solutions to complex issues.
- May be required to provide on-call support.
- Fosters a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.
- Knowledge of relational or non-relational database management, middleware/application administration, application delivery and/or application security.
- Knowledge of SQL, Linux shell scripting, Powershell, Python or other relevant scripting languages.
- Knowledge of core security concepts such as least privilege, escalation, defense in depth, authentication/authorization.
- Good knowledge of core networking concepts and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of Linux and/or Windows OS.
- Ability to translate technical terms to layperson's terms and present them to non-technical audiences.
- Skill in working closely with customers and other IT service providers to define expectations and mutual responsibilities.
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software tools and/or Configuration Management (CM) software tools.
- Experience reading and interpreting system logs, such as, Splunk logs and audit reports.
- Knowledge of Oracle and/or SQL databases for purposes of queries and data validation.
- Knowledge of version control and release processes in design engineering environments.
- Active DOE L or Q clearance, or equivalent, transferable clearance.
Education
Position requires a bachelor’s degree and 8 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Post-graduate coursework may be desirable.
Clearance
No clearance is required, though applicant should be able to acquire a Q clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship.
